How Android Can Dominate the DJ Niche

When the original ipad was announced, it wasn’t long before DJs all over the internet started to think about possible applications for the device. Steve Jobs wasn’t even able to finish his presentation before the internet forums started discussing. Ever since Daft Punk wowed audiences with the use of Lemurs in their Alive 2007 tour, poor DJs everywhere have been waiting for a cheap alternative. For many the announcement of the iPad was exactly what they had been waiting for.

Of course, this is all in the past. We’re already to the iPad 2, and Motorola has just released it’s high powered alternative in the Xoom. There is much that can be said about the advantages and disadvantages of both tablets. I think the DJ Tech Tools article that prompted this post more than covers those bases. Instead, I’d like to discuss something that I think warrants further investigation.

Is Traktor 2 Worth It?

Few things can brighten my day more than the chance to learn about new DJ equipment.  There’s tons of things I could tell you about the new Traktor 2, but we all know what you’re really interested in.  How much is it going to cost?  It’s no secret that DJing is an expensive hobby, and few places is this exemplified better than the classic Serato vs Traktor debate.  Serato user’s pay more up front for their hardware, but get free software updates for life.  Traktor is generally cheaper, but charges for updates every two years.  So now that we have numbers it’s time for everyone to do some number crunching to determine if they made the right choice.  Luckily for you, I love crunching numbers.  So let’s do some analysis!
